During Holy Week I shared some short devotionals with our church on some of the truths of what the death & resurrection of Jesus accomplish for those who trust in Him. As they are always relevant I thought I’d share them with you this week. All the prayers are taken from Fount of Heaven.
Monday: Forgiveness for sins
Tuesday: Freedom from sin
Wednesday: Peace with God
Thursday: Living Hope
Everything in this world, including you & me will fade & die. Everything that promises you so much will ultimately fail to deliver, and the hope of salvation they offer is unreliable – it can’t and shouldn’t be trusted. The world offers a dead hope, with a perishable inheritance, and unreliable salvation.
But through Christ we are forgiven, free, at peace and reborn. God has given those who have received this new birth and this living hope an inheritance. It can’t be destroyed because death has been defeated: it can’t be spoiled because it is in heaven away from sin and it will never lose its brilliance. Because our inheritance is Jesus himself and all that comes with him and from him. HE is our living hope.
This treasure can’t be stolen and it can’t be taken away from you. It will never lose its value, preciousness, wonder, worth.
Prayer
Lord, I love you above all other things. You are the one I seek. You are the one I follow. You are the one I am ready to serve. I want to dwell under your rule, for you alone reign.
Augustine of Hippo
Command me as you will, but heal and open my eyes to see your wonders. And drive all foolishness and pride from me. Give me wisdom to understand you, and teach me where to look to see you. Then I will gladly do what you command. Amen.
