Peace with God

During Holy Week I shared some short devotionals with our church on some of the truths of what the death & resurrection of Jesus accomplish for those who trust in Him. As they are always relevant I thought I’d share them with you this week. All the prayers are taken from Fount of Heaven.

Monday: Forgiveness for sins
Tuesday: Freedom from sin
Wednesday: Peace with God

Because we sin (& sometimes, if we’re honest we love to sin at least for a while) & because we continually choose to live our own way & not God’s way, we have a problem.

As individuals, and as the human race, we have set ourselves against God. We are not at peace with him. And because we cannot remove the guilt or burden, or pay the debt ourselves, God because He is rich in mercy, has chosen to take the guilt & pay the dent Himself. He did this by offering His own Son Jesus on the cross.

Having taken our transgressions, iniquities he bore our punishment and so healed our wounds. So by faith in Jesus we can have peace & be at peace with God. It paves the way to receive, the welcome of the Father.

Prayer

Jesus, Deliverer, come to me. Soothe my voyaging over life’s sea. Then, when the storm of death roars as it sweeps by, whisper to me, O Truth of truth: ‘Peace! It is I’.
