Still no snow in Stockholm, which I have mixed feelings about. I would love some local snow so I can get some snowboarding practice in. On the flip side the lack of snow, and especially lack of ice, means there’s no excuse not to go for a run!
January usually means a fair few films. As a family we’ve finally finished the Harry Potter series having previously never quite made it to the final 3 films. It was clear by the last film they were struggling to keep the leads convincing even as older teens! Joker had a typically good performance by Joaquin Phoenix but was dark and sad. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was OK but not quite up to the levels of the previous two. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Hit Man were both fun in different kinds of ways. Probably the best film was the trip to the cinema to see Conclave. Ralph Fiennes is excellent, the tension in rounds of voting is good and there are some visually stunning scenes even if the ‘twist’ is oh so very Hollywood.
I had a decent month of reading: Moscow X is a pretty good spy thriller but book of the month was Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri. A funny, winsome, heartbreaking, memoir of emigration from Iran to USA, of conversion, of family, of culture. A wonderful book and I think required reading to get an insight into what it’s like to find yourself living somewhere so very different as a child.
Time to see what February has in store.

One of the most difficult objections to believing in God is the problem of evil – explaining why bad things happen if God is good. There is moral evil – the actions that people freely do to each other and then there are the ones we see in nature. At this stage, two culprits are identified as being guilty of this evil – volcanoes and earthquakes.
