I think it probably is. It's natural to want to find meaning. I always find it quite amusing when atheists criticise other belief systems without realising they have invented their own which actually requires more faith i.e. the proven ABSENCE of something, rather than the possibility that it might be there but we haven't found it. Most people don'… Read moret think that deeply, so celebrity culture can fill the meaning gap. You've only got to listen to people talking about celebrities as if they know them, then take a few minutes to look at a celebrity mag (I wouldn't advise more than a few minutes for mental health reasons), to realise that they worship them (give them real value and focus in their lives) in the same way that others worship God.
