There’s so much noise in life. So many voices telling me how to be productive, how to do this or that better. The cacophony can be confusing. Yet wisdom makes its own sound, it plays its own notes. It calls out, seeking to make itself heard. Yet, if I don’t tune in, if I don’t attune myself to wisdom’s distinct notes then I can miss it.

Even if I do hear it I can ignore it. That ability we have to do the stupid thing, say the foolish thing, choose the unwise path should direct our attention to the inclination of our hearts. Yet we can justify pretty much everything, we can defend it all, we can refuse to admit, confess, own up. Our knees won’t bend until our hearts break.

This realisation that wisdom can often go in the opposite direction to my instincts and feelings means I have to make deliberate choices. I must incline my heart towards wisdom & understanding. I must deliberately lean into the wind, I must be aware of what my heart is leaning towards and make sure it is bent towards the way of righteousness.
