Things Women can do in our church

Following on from yesterday’s round up of blogs and articles I’ve come across recently. I thought I’d list a few of the things that women can do in our church, which I think is far more than in some churches but not as much as others:

What they do

  • lead worship
  • publicly read scripture
  • baptise
  • lead communion
  • preach
  • lead children
  • lead a small group
  • be a trustee
  • share their spiritual gifts (prophesy etc..)
  • disciple others
  • Probably more…but my brain is tired

What they don’t do:

  • exercise church discipline
  • take final responsibility for vision and doctrine

There may be more but I can’t think of those either…

If only other churches were as explicit in their understanding, communication and openness about their belief on the role(s) of women. It’s a great deal simpler to have clarity than to have to ‘guess’.

However, lets not forget or diminish the role(s) of mother, discipler, friend, server, welcomer, cleaner, artist, and other less prominent positions (or are feminist women only concerned with positions of power over others?
