This week the weather has been the sort I dislike the most here in Sweden, warm enough for the snow to melt and then cold enough for it all to freeze making the place an ugly, slippy, ice rink. Still tomorrow I’m going to have my first crack at snowboarding for the season, so it’s not all bad. Enjoy your weekend!
You Should Read These
As per usual here are 7 articles that I think are worth you bookmarking, reading & thinking about.
- Brokenness under the skin. An old post resurfaced this week and it’s moving & worth reading.
- Seven Things Church Leaders Need to Consider. Jez Field with some things worth considering.
- Smothered in Secrecy: the gruesome darkness of TB Joshua’s world. It both saddens & heartens me when darkness is exposed & brought into the light. It saddens me because the darkness is hidden in a church. It heartens me because people will eventually see the evil for what it is & bring that house down.
- The Serendipity Machine (Notes on Using Twitter). I know lots of people think Twitter (X) has gone to hell in a hand-basket, but that’s not been my experience. This article explains why and how it doesn’t have to be for you either. Self-recommending.
- Peak ICE: the decline of petrol and diesel cars. Fascinating to think that the high point of the internal combustion engine is now behind us.
- What if Life on Earth Began When Interstellar Objects Crashed Here? This is one of the main theories for how life began. Apparently at most there might be 105 other planets in our galaxy that might have life. Out of hundreds of billions. And before you get too excited, “However, these estimates are based on the most optimistic projections regarding planetary habitability!”
- The Best Cheeses of 2023. As a friend said, “A suspiciously large number of American cheeses in this list… Do they really make Brie and Camembert better than the French?? Having said that I would gladly eat everything in this list.”

The elders job is to guard that teaching and be proactive in ensuring it is, well, actually believed. Sticking it on your website that you believe in the final authority of Scripture is not nearly close to being the same thing as your church understanding, grasping and celebrating that truth. Same goes for pretty much every other truth you’ve listed. The job is to continually guard, tend, protect, nourish the truths you hold to in the life of the church.
