The Curiosity Index: The 2019 edition

Time to mark the passing of another 365 days and it has been quite eventful. Not least for volcanoes (which I seem to regularly point out.)

The world is still struggling to look after the only planet we’ll ever line on. Losing forest and gaining heat.

It was 25 years since the Rwandan genocide. But mass deaths still happen in far too many places Yemen, Myanmar, Congo, Syria. Christians are still persecuted. Yet it’s not all bad news if you know where to look.

In Sweden, the nation recovers in the PISA tables (education) and saw a huge increase in Britains being granted citizenship (including all four members of my family).

It’s never too late to learn new things: Here are 52. As a species, we’re not just learning about the universe but also about our past (also here & here).

I’m a fan of the Think theology blog – here’s their (well Andrew Wilson’s) review of 2019. Brett McCracken gives his top ten movies of 2019 with a fair few bonuses recommendations as well. I’ve seen precisely zero so far but I have a few lined up.

In sport, American Football is the sport I most enjoy watching and my team Miami Dolphins remain the only team to go undefeated despite this season suffering defeat too many times. Running is the sport I most enjoy doing and it saw some impressive feats. Eliud Kipchoge broke two hours and I was parkrunner of the week.
