The days are now almost as long as they’re going to be this year and it’s so good. Everything is heading for the summer slow-down. It’s time for reading, resting, running, vacation, letting the mind wander and for longer and slower conversations.

Last Saturday my son and I ran this race. It was my son’s first 10k and he did really well in 41:45 just a couple of minutes behind this guy! I took it a little more measured and came in at an even 45:00. I wasn’t going all-in and was just pleased with a very evenly paced run. The start though was too crowded.

But there I was being quizzed about my views on evolution, which I almost never offer, mostly because even showing you understand the perspective usually causes veins to start bulging alarmingly in necks. These discussions with young earthers, and it is always with them, zealous as they are to hunt down any trace of what they think of as unorthodoxy are usually a bit awkward. No one likes an inquisition.
