   It is too bad that it is automatically assumed the Universalism denies Hell. Not all Universalists deny Hell. As a matter of fact, Hell has a pertinent role in God’s plan for renewing all things. BTW, I am not saying Bell is a Universalist. I am just addressing the assumptions tied in with Universalism that have been broadcast since Bell’s promo for his book was released.

   In the current debate, there appears little awareness of the work of your near neighbour Robin Parry, the author of The Evangelical Universalist.

   It is incorrect to assume (you don’t state it by the way) that the only optons on the table are

   a) hell as endless punishement
   b) hell as annihilationism
   c) all are saved from hell regardless of what they believe
   d) no hell at all in the age to come

   The Evangelical Universalist position argues that hell is real and the destinaton of the unbelieving in the age to come. It also argues that, finally, all who enter hell will believe in Christ as saviour and be brought out from it into eternal life.

   This is a distinct position from any of the above, and is a least worth a read, in my opinion, even if we find we end up disagreeing with the writer’s conclusions.

   @Al,

   http://www.evangelicaluniversalist.com has a lot of information on their forums, too. Parry did a great job with his book. I am awaiting my copy of “All Will Be Well”.
