Merger questions

So the process of merger two churches legally has been completed but the work of creating one church is still ongoing. Here are some of the questions we asked ourselves as we worked through some of the issues. What other questions would you have asked?

  1. Vision – what’s our calling from God? Where are we headed?
  2. Values – what’s our character and style?
  3. Theology – what issues separate us and what issues unite us?
  4. Structure – how will we be lead? how will we make decisions?
  5. Leadership – who will lead us?
  6. Pastoral care – who will shepherd us/ care for us?
  7. Fellowship – how will we become one body?
  8. Mission – how will we reach out to the community?
  9. Worship – how, where and when will we worship?
  10. Resources – what do we need to accomplish the above?

Also be interesting to ask how you will relate to the wider church, you come out of two strong streams of Church, and it will be good to work out how you continue to work together with those umbrella organisations!
Looking forward to seeing the outworkings…
    God bless

I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your attention that the merger of two bodies is comparitively similar to a marriage of two people.

It strikes me then that questions related to future are as important as questions related to now.

What people are we going to reach
What mission has God called us on
    What children will we have
How many children do we want
    Where will we live
What relationship will we have with our parents
Whose house will we go to for christmas and easter

The past has gone, and though the two groups bring who they are to the table, it’s what the two of you will become now you are one that matters.

Common goals, vision, dreams, mission are essential to success.. I would think?
