Yesterday I included AI in my list of trends to shape the rest of the decade (and beyond) which is not exactly a revelation but we do need to be clear about it and not just respond to it but think theologically about it. Recently I was interviewed by my friend Jez Field for the New Ground Life & Leadership Podcast. I wouldn’t at all consider myself an expert in things AI (nor much else to be honest) but I’d posted a few things here and there about it including ChatGPT roasting some of my sermon manuscripts so we started there.

A few things I noticed that I repeated (more than once, sorry about that) but obviously is the lessons I’ve been absorbing

• When it comes to a new technology, think about not just what you might gain but what you might lose if you adopt this
• Who do you trust to tell you the truth about the world (and why) are crucial questions for discipleship today
• Trust can be built through kindness and generosity
• AI has no soul so don’t expect to find any there

I always really enjoy talking to Jez and he’s a really engaging host. For days afterwards I found myself thinking of things I should have or could have said differently or better, where I could have been more concise but these things are live and I didn’t really know what was coming next!
