The Curiosity Index: Week 34

I didn’t post much last week as it was mostly consumed with travel to, participating in, and then travelling back from my father’s cremation and thanksgiving service. It went well, it felt sad, but honouring, hope filled but with space for grief. Preaching at it was a great honour and a huge challenge. More on that when the video is available.

Now life is getting back to normal and ramping up in terms of activities. The kids are back at their respective schools, their sports are resuming. We are all back to work and meetings are reappearing on my calendar. That’s all good but every now and then I just get hit by a wave of sadness and that’s taking a bit of adjusting to.

I’ve enjoyed discovering both Jack Ryan and Shardlake while as a family we’re back watching the latest acrobatics from American Ninja Warrior.

This week we have cultural Christianity, global mission, righteous deeds, polyamory, schools, shooting stars and houses!.

  1. The rise of cultural Christianity: Why religion is thriving in a non-believing age. Fascinating article from The New Statesman.

  3. Your Holy Deeds Are Not Filthy Rags. Quite right from John Piper.

  5. Why do so many British schools look the same? They do, don’t they?
  6. Stunning Photo of Perseids Raining Shooting Stars Over Stonehenge. What it says. Stunning.
  7. I could happily live here. Less happily here.

From The Archives

The gospel reverses the way clean & unclean works. Previously if something clean touched something unclean it became unclean but in Christ the opposite happens. Paul is reversing that here and saying that the one that is holy is making the unholy person ‘holy’ and therefore ‘clean’. They can be touched, they do not need separating from.

How can an unbeliever be holy?

Have a great week and if you see something you think deserves a spot here let me know
