Devotional: A trustworthy father

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17

One of the things that I’ve learnt as a mother is the importance of being consistent. If I say no to something, I have to stick to it even if it results in a tantrum. It doesn’t help my children if I say yes one minute, then no the next – they don’t know where they stand. When I am consistent with them, it gives them security.

One of the things I love about my heavenly father is that He is always consistent and constant. He is always there, always faithful, always good. He is light, there is no darkness, no shadows in Him. If He says it, He means it. Our heavenly Father is always the same. Even if everything around me changes, if situations, relationships or circumstances are suddenly thrown into chaos and confusion, God, my Father, remains the same. Always faithful. Always loving. Always looking to bless us with good gifts. He is a wonderful, consistent and constant father.
