Once again my probing into the virtual world is only skin deep and I pick something up from the BBC. In this story they report a survey done by Tearfund (excellent charity by the way) that only 1 in 10 Britons attend church on a regular basis, nothing hugely surprising there.

However in the BBC article the Reverend Lynda Barley, head of research and statistics for the Church of England Archbishops’ Council said this,

At first glance, the past has been left behind to wholeheartedly embrace individual choice and secular consumerism prominently among its modern-day gods.

I have to say I think she’s right – we’re looking for something to satisfy the soul but because we’ve rejected the church we look for it in new temples, new places of worship, places where we give our time, money and devotion in return for goods not grace.
