There aren’t many stories out there where you can say, ‘this changed the destiny of millions of children’. I’d like to introduce you to one of them. My friends Robert & Elizabeth Glover have a remarkable story to tell, although getting it out of Robert was like pulling teeth at times. Mostly because Rob’s a pretty humble chap and he was very reluctant to become the story. In Rob’s thinking, this story wasn’t about him at all, it was about God and God’s heart for the orphan, wherever that orphan may be.
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
Here is the story in a nutshell. God puts the nation of China on Rob’s heart while he trains and works in the UK as a social worker. In China, he establishes a pilot project to see orphaned children placed in foster families. The project is successful and is rolled out across China, they launch the charity Care for Children and voila – over a million children who would otherwise have grown up without a family, now won’t.
There is a great deal more to it than that of course, which is why you should buy and read the book1 in order to find out all the remarkable things that happened along the way.
I know Rob & Liz personally and so it’s a joy to recommend them and their story to you. Not only that but I had the privilege of working on this book and helping Rob find a publisher who has done an outstanding job. It’s a privilege to play a role in helping this remarkable story that deserves to be read and spread widely, to inspire others to see God’s heart for the orphan.
