Keeping a blog has a way of keeping you accountable if you keep it up for long enough. I’ve probably been wrong about a bunch of stuff but I’ve conveniently forgotten those. I’m choosing instead to remind you of the ones I’ve got right.
Looking somewhat beyond the issue of gay marriage, many think (inside and outside the church) that the next shift in societies view on marriage will be the legalizing of polygamous marriages, after all, ‘We should fight for privacy as an inclusive concept, benefiting everyone in the same way. Regardless of whether it is a gay or plural relationship, the struggle and the issue remains the same: the right to live your life according to your own values and faith.’ (HT to Challies for the links)
I remember in countless discussions with people in favour of legalising same-sex marriages that those against brought up the argument that this would eventually lead to a dissolution of the sacredness of a marriage being between two people. ‘Rubbish’ they scoffed, ‘scare-mongering’ they said.
Well, here we are, in less than a decade. Of course, guessing that Utah would be at the front of the queue is no great surprise.

The changes in sexual ethics can be quite depressing if you view them as the defeat of the Christian sexual ethics but perhaps it’s just setting the scene for another Christian sexual revolution. Consider this paragraph:
Christianity went from cult to culture in part because the sexual ethic was considered better and safer and more freeing for more people. Obviously, not everyone found Christian morality to be an improvement on traditional Roman standards. But Christian ethics meant a profoundly improved lot in life for women, children, the enslaved, and the poor. The changes came slowly—over centuries, not over years and decades—but changes did come.
