A plague

In January a plague hit the world that hasn’t been seen before. It will affect hundreds of thousands of people, supplies of food will be disrupted, local economies endangered and lives will be lost. The poorest and most vulnerable will be hit hardest and the weakest will die. Here we are in March and there is no end in sight to this plague which has spread from its source to cause worry and distress in neighbouring countries.

It’s not COVID-19.

No, this is locusts. Vast swarms the size of giant cities were reported in January (and again) and is still happening in March.

The UN has asked for $138 million to tackle the crisis. They probably won’t get it. The people with the money are worried about other things that they’ll spend billions on.

That’s wrong.
