What the Bible Says About Itself—Book by Book

At the beginning of May I saw this post by Jared Wilson about the Bible. What God says about his Word is a deep, complex, and staggering thing. And each book of the written Word testifies to the wonder of his revelation. I decided to take a look, book by book, selecting a representative passage from each to highlight many of the things God’s word says about God’s words. The Word of God is . . . And then he proceeds to work through every book of the Bible. It’s…

A people changed by the Grace of God

At Grace Church we’ve begun a series looking at our convictions & aspirations when it comes to church & discipleship. It is about saying what we believe to be true and at the same time what we wish to be true for us (but may not always be the case). The first was on being a church with the Gospel in the centre. Our second is on being a people changed by grace. Again, I’d love your feedback – tweet me if you’re having problems leaving comments.

Church is a family

Swedes, when it comes to matters of faith are largely illiterate and sceptical. They don’t understand it and sometimes they fear it. Homes are not places you just…

Church is family

In Grace Church we constantly wrestle with the form of church. How do meetings, gatherings and activities relate to the vision of church. We keep coming back to the Bible. Who does God reveal Himself to be in relation to the church? Well, one of the main ways is that He is a Father and His people are His children. The church then is a family. Families aren’t always the picture perfect, stress-free places we imagine them to be as we peruse the pages of the IKEA catalogue but we seek to invest…

A family of churches

Everyone has their own language they use to describe context and church is no different. Some of these words are better than others, some have history, some find their roots in more contemporary society. ‘Denomination’ is a good example of the former and ‘network’an example of the latter. When I talk of the connections Grace Church has, I try and use the language of family. We do not belong to an organisation and we pay no subscription fee. We are not bound by a confession, we are not connected by…
