So I’m off to Stockholm again today to meet some people interested in joining our church planting team. Do pray that God would help me not be too off-putting! Or to put it another way that God’s grace would be on us. You’re in a meeting and you get called out to take a phone call. You’re told you have less than 24 hours to save the world’s biggest bank. No pressure. So whatever his other mistakes and faults were kudos to Alistair Darling for not buckling under. However banks…

Book Review: Good to Grow

In the interests of full disclosure I should say that I count some of the staff and members of Kings as friends and am part of the same family of churches as the author of this book, Steve Tibbert. It’s always a slightly tricky thing when you review a book by someone you know. Being a sycophant isn’t my thing but then I’ve not always got the balance right when making public comments about people who, after all, are on the same team. That makes it sound like I’m about…

I’m not sure I’m brave enough to go hunting for a 6 metre long crocodile that weighs 1 tonne and eats buffalo for breakfast. Pretty sure about that in fact. (HT: Jeremy) I used to offset my jaunts around the world and was then began to feel that there were a waste of time. But perhaps carbon offsetting isn’t so bad after all? As a kid I walked to school from the age of 5 until I could get a bike and then I rode to school. You could probably…

Today we have hitch-hiking, middle east politics, surprising jobs and more on the menu. Also apologies for lack of blogging, I’m working on it. Anyway, one pleasant surprise is that today in south-east Sweden it is 18° and sunny. So we are off to the beach. At Breathe they’ve started a season of posts on ethical clothing. The first, from Pakistan, offers a different perspective. Here’s a different angle on e-book readers. They offer too many books! I used to hitch-hike, in fact I would say it is my favourite…

Let the children play

Yesterday this letter appeared in The Telegraph from over 200 academics and child experts arguing that ‘children’s well-being and mental health is being undermined by the pressures of modern life’ (HT: Matt Hosier). They sent a similar letter five years previously, clearly little or nothing had changed. It’s why we at Breathe made this little video. Why not watch it, or better yet watch it with some friends and think through your response. For more resources on the video check out Conspiracy of Freedom.

Not exactly Christ centred parenting yet

So the other day I was pushing my three-year old boy on the swings, it’s one of his favourite things, and he started singing about his Saviour’s love. This, I took to be a good thing and decided to delve a little bit deeper. ‘Who’s your Saviour, Noah?’ ‘Daddy?’ ‘No, try again’ ‘Mummy?’ ‘No. Who do we read about every night?’ ‘Oh, Goliath!’ ‘Not quite, try again’ ‘Pharaoh!’ ‘Again, not quite. Who makes things better?’ ‘Oh, Jesus!’ ‘Yes, that’s right.’ Sigh. So the sum total of my instruction so far is…
