This is all about running, so if running and the sheer insanity of it is not your thing….move along now, nothing to see here.
At the weekend Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in an incredible 2:00:25 and going faster will still take some doing. Which is 422 consecutive 100m sprints each completed in 17 seconds. I reckon I can do about 4.
Kipchoge ran with in/out pacemakers, moped delivering drinks, and a huge investment by Nike to help him break 2 hours. BBC’s Ed Harry said, “Eliud Kipchoge is, I believe, the greatest physical specimen ever to line up on a marathon start line. If he can’t run sub-two, then I don’t see another athlete that will do it any time soon.”
If he’d cheated he’d have been caught by this guy.
Here is WIRED on why 2 hours is such a hard task.
And this is what it would look like to run that fast
This explains it slightly less grimly…only slightly.
There are lots of marathons and not all marathons are created equal. The Barkley Marathons on the other hand are completely insane.
